History
As a regular airline passenger, Henk G. Hilders watched the way air cargo is handled, while waiting at a terminal for boarding and departure. He observed that most air cargo is stowed on a flat pallet, covered with plastic foil and a restraint net. With the globally successful ISO container for ocean shipping in mind, he was amazed about the old fashioned way of pallet assembly and disassembly and started to think about something smarter. He never realized that it would take him ten years of perseverance, by trial and error to develop and complete his idea. From the beginning, he was convinced that his solution should contain a certain "intelligence" to cope with subjects such as safety and security, and this was long before 9/11.
During a period of 7 years, Q-MAT, an Advanced Composites Engineering Company in Amsterdam the Netherlands, has designed and developed an innovative air cargo container and shipping control system, called Cargobox: a lightweight "intelligent and tamper-free" conveyance unit for door-to-door transport of freight. Together with an integrated supporting ICT Security System named CargoSyst, the Cargobox allows for fully controlled, safe and secure, fast, efficient and reliable forwarding of cargo shipments the same way documents and small packages are delivered by Integrated Forwarders.
Cargobox Europe B.V. has been established to commercially explore the Cargobox and CargoSyst IT Security System. Currently a limited scale pilot project for the circulation of the Cargobox has been prepared in order to collect relevant data on safety and security enhancements in combination with effects on shipment efficiency improvement and cost reductions, forthcoming from general application of the Cargobox and the CargoSyst IT Security System for global air cargo handling.
